Roots

Well, what can I say, we LOVE our new house! Its where we hope to stay for a long time. There is something about creating stability and something lasting that is so appealing, even more so for me than "newness" or adventure. I like roots. I like knowing people I don't remember not knowing. I like seeing other people's babies born and grow up. I like planting things in my yard and watching them grow too. I like being part of a ward family, and staying a part of that family. So the antithesis of all this is moving. Which is why we tried to find a house we could be happy in for a long time. Moving is hard for me. I lived in the same house my whole life. My brother has been giving my mom some pressure to move. But I want my kids to eat the food that she cooks in THAT kitchen and run around in THAT backyard like I did. Is that weird? Why is that so important to me? I have never been afraid of change or adventure or trying new things. But I like the same house, and I hope my kids will appreciate the stability like I have. On the other hand, I guess you never know what life will throw at you and cause total upheavel. All you can do is plan and hope for the best right!

Anyway, I am feeling very settled and at home, on so many different levels. And that's a great feeling. So, let the roots begin!

Gaby - I so agree with you! A person needs those roots to cling to and call home. Thanks for your sweet comments on my blog. I too am loving the cousin lunches - we've got to keep it up! But we could also hang out other than that - maybe go to a movie some night or something? I live really close to you, remember? I'm just down in Draper!

Gaby, like jen's comments, thanks so much for the insightful comments on my blog. i'm over the moon that you're in - the right spirit has to settle on you (and it has) before you "feel at home" in a place, so it's a blessing and a miracle, really, your new house. i've always loved the saying "when the student is ready, the teacher will come." well, so it is with all things in life - what a generous and giving Father in Heaven we have who cares for us each and all in particular. what you exactly need is ready and waiting for you. hope you fall in love with it and thank goodness and thank God every minute! i can feel your happy smile through your wonderful words - love your blog and how your write and what you share. thanks so much.

Gaby-
I know exactly how you feel. You put my feelings down perfectly. I have been craving roots since I moved to college, and hope that after our Air Force commitment we can find a place to just watch things grow and change around us. I didn't make it to the cousing lunch because I got strep throat, but I will hopefully be there next time. I heard it was a lot of fun.

Exciting to move. Change is good. Where is your new house, we are also looking and want a place where kids are everywhere. Emily is now 3 and with a baby on the way, it would be nice for Emily to have friends all over the neighborhood to play with. We enjoy driving around looking at houses and would like to scan your area for possible homes. It was fun reading your blog.
